Holes is a book about a boy named Stanley Yelnats, he is always in the wrong place at the wrong time. Stanley goes to a place called Camp Green Lake and he meets some unusual characters there such as Mr Sr., Mr Pendansky, The Warden, Zero, Zig Zag, X ray and Arm Pit. One night while Stanley and his friend Zero are digging a hole five foot deep by five foot long using there shovel as there measuring stick they dig up a lipstick case with the initials KB on it. Stanley runs away with Zero to a mountain called Gods Thumb, on the way Zero becomes sick and starts to fall down the mountain so Stanley has to carry him the rest of the way. At the top they find a lot of onions and water and the eat drink and rest. When they return to the camp they decide to keep digging in the hope of finding kissing Kate Barlow's treasure. When they finally find the treasure they get covered in yellow spotted lizards. The warden of the camp comes and tries to take the treasure but doesn’t get it because the lawyer and the AG won’t let her. They find out that most of the people there are criminals so the lawyer and AG close it down and re-open it as a Girl Scout camp.
My favourite part of the story was when the writer told all his readers that The Warden was a woman. It was unexpected because she was so tough and it totally made me want to keep reading the book.
My favourite character is Kate Barlow because she was a great school teacher that everybody liked and she turns into the most wanted outlaw in America. The way she can change her ways so fast is just unbelievable.
I would definitely read it again for sure. I would recommend it for seven and up. It is very exciting and I would give it a 10/10.
If I could ask the author anything I would like to know if he related to any of characters in the story.
